Tokyo market calendar: dates and visiting tips

Check whether a market is open on the day you will be in Tokyo. Oedo and Tokyo Nominoichi’s autumn edition have published dates; Setagaya lists its usual annual schedule; Tomioka has a closure notice without a year. The sections below explain what is confirmed for each market.

Calendar coverage: 2026-09-01 – 2027-03-31

Organizer-published dates: Oedo and Tokyo Nominoichi

These dates come from the organizers’ published schedules. Tokyo Nominoichi runs for four consecutive days; the other dates are Oedo events. Do not assume a fixed Sunday pattern. Their rain policies differ: read each market’s notes and check the organizer before traveling.

Setagaya Boroichi: usual dates, awaiting the season’s announcement

The ward government lists December 15–16 and January 15–16 as the annual schedule. These four dates follow that pattern, but we have not found a separate announcement for December 2026 and January 2027. If the market is the reason for your trip, confirm the dates before booking non-refundable flights or accommodation.

How to fit a market into a Tokyo trip

  • Start with the days you will be in Tokyo, then check which markets fit.
  • With children or heavy luggage, you could allow half a day and decide how long to stay as you go. Keep a nearby indoor activity as a backup.
  • Check the weather and organizer’s notice again that morning. Oedo and Tomioka cancel in rain; severe weather may change Setagaya’s hours or cancel it.

After choosing dates, use the trip planner (2026 scoring data) to organize a Tokyo itinerary, with the September, October, November, December or January guides for context. Month-guide and calculator scores still use 2026 data; they do not score these 2027 market dates.

How we verified

We checked government or organizer pages for all four markets, including each 2026 and 2027 date in Oedo’s Japanese and English schedules. Setagaya’s four dates follow its published annual schedule. Tomioka’s closure notice has no year, so we have left its dates out. Tokyo Nominoichi’s autumn dates, hours and ticket arrangements were checked separately on September 7, 2026. These were online source checks; we have not visited the markets.

Confidence: high for published dates and basic facts; medium for Setagaya’s projected dates until the season’s announcement.

Limitations

  • This page covers four Tokyo markets between September 2026 and March 2027.
  • Published dates can change or be cancelled. Setagaya’s projected dates still need an announcement for the coming season.
  • Stalls, goods and crowds vary between dates; this page has no live information about them.
  • Station names and usual hours come from official sources. Walking routes, luggage access, wheelchair routes and stroller access have not been field-tested.
