4 distinctive omamori: designs, reception hours and how to get there

In Tokyo, look for bracelet charms in Asagaya or IT omamori at Kanda Myojin. Kyoto has Shimogamo’s lace charms, while Kagawa has Kotohira-gu’s yellow omamori with a miniature dog. Browse by destination for designs, reception hours, directions and nearby stops.

All times are local to Japan. Use charm-counter hours when planning to collect an omamori; the grounds may open earlier. Photo buttons take you to the shrine’s official page to see the designs.

Two things to check before going

Save the Japanese name of the charm you want, then check reception hours and current notices. Consider the stairs at Kotohira-gu when traveling with children or older relatives. For postal requests, check that your delivery destination is accepted.

How we verified

We checked official shrine catalogues, reception notices, access pages and grounds maps. Nearby stops use operator and official tourism sources; Yushima Seido’s winter hours are from Bunkyo’s 2025 visitor guide. Check dates record when sources were read, not when stock was confirmed. These were online checks, not in-person visits.

Confidence: high for the facts directly supported by the sources. Stock, temporary closures and the next New Year schedule still need checking before travel.

Before using this guide

  • An official photo does not confirm that every color or special edition is available on your visit date. A postal request is not a reservation for collection at the shrine.
  • Omamori are religious items for prayer. Meanings are based on shrine descriptions, not guarantees about health, fortune or information security.
  • The four shrines are in Tokyo, Kyoto and Kagawa; choose one that fits your destination. Extra visiting time is an editorial allowance. Official walking estimates exclude queues and transport waits.
